Paper Creasing and Scoring
Creasing and scoring do the same job: they weaken the paper along the fold line so that heavy stock folds cleanly, without the print cracking or the fibres splitting along the edge. The two use different methods and suit different paper, coating and thickness. Colorbourne Graphics creases printed stock for Melbourne businesses and other printers.
What we crease
- Stock from 170 gsm to 350 gsm
- Up to 20 creases per sheet on our Duplo DC 616 slitter, cutter and creaser
- Folded business cards, thick card flyers, greeting cards, brochure and booklet covers
Creasing questions
When does paper need creasing before folding?
At 170 gsm and above. Fold heavy card without a crease and the toner or ink cracks along the fold and the edge looks ragged. A crease first gives a sharp, clean fold. Lighter stock, up to 150 gsm, can go straight to our folding service.
What is the difference between creasing and scoring?
Creasing presses a rounded channel into the sheet with a matrix and rule; scoring cuts partway into the surface. Creasing is gentler on coated and digitally printed stock, which is why it is our default for printed card.
